PODCAST EPISODE: Embracing Aggressive and Risky Play
A throwback episode from my days co-hosting the Hand in Hand Parenting Podcast with my dear friend Elle Kwan.
For this episode, Elle and I welcomed the wonderful Dr. Lawrence J. Cohen, psychologist and the author of Playful Parenting, The Opposite of Worry and co-author of The Art of Roughhousing. Our subject of the day: aggressive and risky play, of course!
While this type of play may be very beneficial for kids, it can be very triggering for us as parents.
TODAY WE EXPLORE:
- What can we do with own fears when our children play aggressively?
- Why we should be joining our children in play
- How we can trust our children with their own risk management
- How we can stop saying "be careful," and start reflecting and wondering around play (or taking risks ourselves!)
- Evaluating when you need to step in
ACTION STEPS:
The episode ends with some ideas of games to try with your children, and to help get you started, check out this blog post here:
